Invasive weed control

We specialise in the identification and removal of invasive plant species, including plants such as  Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam, and giant hogweed. These plants can cause significant damage to both the environment and property, and if left untreated, they can spread rapidly, affecting biodiversity and posing health risks.

Initial Site Visit and Planning

Initial Site Visit and Planning

Initial Site Visit and Planning

Our process begins with a site visit where our experienced team will assess the extent of the infestation and identify the specific invasive species present. We’ll discuss the potential risks these plants pose and recommend the most effective and environmentally friendly course of action to control and remove the weed.

Our Operations Manager will oversee the entire process, facilitating the provision of detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), developing a tailored programme of works, and closely monitoring the project from start to completion to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

Treatment Options

Licensed Waste Disposal

Treatment Options

  • Spraying: Targeted herbicide spraying is a common and effective method for controlling invasive species. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the plant, killing it at the root.
  • Soil Management: For invasive species that spread through seeds or rhizomes in the soil, removing or treating contaminated soil may be necessary to prevent further spread.

Removal Options

Licensed Waste Disposal

Treatment Options

  • Digging/Excavation: For plants with deep or extensive root systems, such as Japanese knotweed, physical excavation may be required to remove both above-ground growth and root systems. This ensures the plant does not regrow.
  • Cutting and Uprooting: Cutting back the plants, followed by manual or mechanical uprooting, is effective in smaller areas or with species like Himalayan balsam.

Licensed Waste Disposal

Proper disposal of invasive weeds is crucial to prevent their spread and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Invasive species like Japanese knotweed can regrow from small fragments, so it's essential to handle waste carefully ensuring strict protocols for transporting and disposing of invasive weeds:

  • A licensed disposal site
  • A licensed waste carrier
  • Thourough record keeping (volumes, load quantities and waste certificates)
